Trail development project in Trenton

May 28 - June 10, 2006August 6 - August 26, 2006

Volunteer project: Trenton is

an active community continuously improving recreational

opportunities for all ages.

The goal of the project is planning, building, and utilizing trails

within the town. The volunteers will be working on the first phase

of the project which is development of Smelt Brook Trail. The

benefits of this trail will bring revitalization back to the town.

The project will allow the participants to interact with the general

public, they will have the opportunity to gain and hone skills in

junior management, networking, communications and teamwork.

The Smelt Brook Trail will link the

main street area and loop around utilizing a natural ravine and

another street. The volunteers will clean up the site which would

involve cleaning brush and removing any large pieces of dead wood

and garbage. Together with local volunteers, the workcamp

participants will assist in other activities like drainage tile

installation, tread surfacing, abutment and bridge installation,

bank stabilization, trail head development and signage installation.

Volunteers will help also with the preparation of media releases.

Study part: The international

volunteer group will review existing trail developments by visiting

existing trails and learning about the challenges and ideas.

Volunteers will also undertake training for GPS use in determining

trails corridor alignment. When certain topics regarding trail

development arises, the participants will research the Provincial

Trails Manual to support ideas generated within the project.

Accommodation:

The volunteer group will be accommodated in the local school

gymnasium. They will need to bring sleeping bags.

Location: The Town of Trenton

is located on the Northumberland coast of northern Nova Scotia. On

the shores of the East River, Trenton is a small town with a lot to

offer. It is a community with a great history that was founded

around industry and is noted for being the birthplace of the first

pouring of steel in British North America.

Located in Trenton is one of the finest parks in Nova Scotia,

Trenton Steeltown Centennial Park. This beautiful park offers both

fun and relaxation with its 3 large stocked ponds, a mini-golf

course, and a large swimming pool. The closest international airport

is located in Halifax, which is approximately 100km.

Age limit: 18-30 years

STOP LOOKING – FIND A SPORT / ACTIVITY PARTNER NOW

Posted by webmaster@craigslist.org in at 10:10 am | Permanent Link

If you are looking for a sport or activity partners in your city, visit http://www.myactivitymatch.com

This website is nothing like the other activity partner website I have seen so far. It allows people to post their availability for a chosen sport or activity, in a specific area (zip codes) and you can even specify the time of the day you would like to practice this activity/sport.

Simply log in and check who is available for tennis, golf, rock climbing (or any of their 65 other sports/activities) this week. The postings are updated live so you always have access to the most recent information.

If you can not find anyone for your favorite sport in your city/area, it’s probably because they just launched their service but you should post your availabilities and wait for others to contact you!

Oh, and did I mentioned the service is totally FREE?

Enjoy and have fun.

Annika, Even; 13-year-old Dakoda, +2

Posted by mulligan in at 8:00 pm | Permanent Link

This is a little mind-boggling to me: 13-year-old Dakoda Dowd, playing on a sponsor’s exemption (see here), managed to shoot an impressive 2-over 74, while world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam could only muster an even par round. Way to go, Dakoda! Hard to b…
